B.U.D., pronounced as if being spelled, i.e. “Bee-You-Dee,” (or "Ve-Oh-De." Depende lang kung saang bukid ka galing.) formed in Davao City in 2005. The full name of the band is Bawal Umihi Dito, but is referred to as simply B.U.D. more commonly. Don't ask, kasi korni ang sagot. The musical style and genres the band is known best for are garage, post-punk and progressive rock, although the members don't really know what exactly these genres sound like.

Members of the band are (in increasing order of age):
Mevin Dacono (25 September 1990), Drums, Vocals/back-up dancer
Jasper Nacilla (14 August 1990), Lead Guitar, Back-up Vocals/keychain
Nikki Gutierrez (9 June 1990), Bass, Back-up Vocals/body builder, bodyguard, bouncer, macho dancer
Uno Ayala (19 April 1990), Rhythm Guitar, Lead Vocals/cheer-leader
(former members: Francis Escuadro-Lead Vocals, Igi Dayot-Drums, Chris Valenzona-Rhythm Guitar, Lead Guitar, Keyboard)

The band came together when they were classmates in their junior year of high school (2005) at Ateneo de Davao. The name came as a suggestion from Uno Ayala (paano ba naman kasi, "No Entry" sana pangalan nila). At the beginning, B.U.D. was formed to be an entry in the school's annual battle of the bands. At this time, B.U.D. was a five-piece set consisting of Francis Escuadro, Mevin Dacono, Jasper Nacilla, Igi Dayot and Nikki Gutierrez. When the band failed to get past the eliminations, Igi Dayot left, Mevin abandoned guitar duties to helm the drums (kahit di siya marunong...dati), Uno Ayala and Chris Valenzona signed on, and B.U.D. continued merely for recreational purposes. This would change when a music-studio owner noticed them while jamming at a public studio, and offered to manage and train them for competitions; the band declined (meaning they never said no, pero natawa sila nang pabulaslas dahil sa shock na may kawawang nilalang that actually wanted to manage them—the studio owner was duly offended and barred them from ever using his studio for practice ever again), but they decided to take music seriously—if you can ever call the guys from B.U.D. serious, that is. It was also around this time that the band's line-up of members trimmed down to four, and stabilized into its current roster.

As for background of the members, Mevin and Jasper are both self-taught in their instruments. Jasper is also an accomplished dancer and plays the banduria (isang instrumentong andaming strings, yung marinig sa opening theme ng "The Godfather"). Mevin (yes, it's MEVIN, not MeLvin—walang L!), on the other hand, learned the drums quickly and effectively through instructional books and practice, despite not having a drum set of his own at the beginning, nor now even. Nikki (who IS a boy, despite the spelling of his name and his appearance. Joke lang) and Uno were both previously enrolled in Conpinco Music School (although the rest of the band insist that Uno went to Yamaha Music School, talagang ayaw nilang tanggapin na Conpinco kid siya), with Nikki learning under the instruction of Paolo Sisi, one of Davao’s best music teachers. Nikki belongs to a family immersed in music, as all his siblings were previously enrolled in Conpinco. Uno, who is of Filipino, Chinese and Norwegian descent (in other words: Askal), also belongs to a musically inclined family, being related to the likes of Mike Ayala (7th Heaven), Jim Paredes (Apo Hiking Society), Joey Ayala and Cynthia Alexander. His parents are also well-versed in the arts; his mother, Lani Ayala, sings and plays the piano, and his father, Ian, a U.S. National, is a guitarist and painter. Furthermore, Uno’s father and paternal grandparents are connected to notable foreign artists such as Jorma Kaukonen and Janis Joplin, whom you probably might not be old enough to know about anyway.

B.U.D. began performing seriously (again, if you can EVER call them serious) in 2006, mostly in Ateneo High School’s events, such as the battle of the bands, and 2007 Prom night. Notable gigs after high school include their very own EP Launch at Kanto Bar, Matina Town Square in May 2008, which may be looked upon as their official arrival in the Davao original/independent music scene. They have also performed at NCCC Mall of Davao twice. One small-scale but memorable gig was a jam session on Buenavista Island, with Jim Paredes among the audience. Mr. Paredes praised the band’s original songs for their upbeat and catchy tunes, and gave them a few tips on their music.

Following this, the band released their first single, Kabit, to local radio stations, and debuted at the number 3 spot on the Indie Chart of Davao City. The song would peak at number 1 after one week at number 3, and two weeks at number 2. Their second single, Emo Kid, would debut at number 7, and peak at number 1 for three weeks. B.U.D.'s original songs are some of the few songs on the Indie Countdown to be requested for play on other "regular" or "mainstream" radio segments. God knows why though. In the same year, the band was nominated for Best Rock Act in the Muzika del Sur Awards 2008, but did not make the finals, mostly because they suck as a band. Well, not really.

The band has expanded their audience demographic (meaning mas marami nang nagkakasakit sa ulo) by going to Manila for gigs at least once a year. They have performed alongside (or at least in the same event...whatever, echos!) notable bands such as Duster, Join the Club, Beatmathix, Pinoy Tribe, Giniling Festival, Art Strong, Gloc9, Sponge Cola, Chicosci (emo pa rin kayo), Imago, Paraluman, Pedicab, Sandwich, Talkshow, Washday, Mayonnaise (kasabay sa stage!), Tropical Depression (salamat na lang kahit mga...wag na lang), Aurea Maristela, banda ni JC (di ko alam ano pangalan, pero shit bro, hanep mo mag drums. Haha), GARY V OMG ANG GALING, Salamin, Sleepwalk Circus, Hilera, syempre ang paborito nila na ang Kamikazee, at marami pang iba!

The band has released a self-produced EP of all-original music and are currently at work with producing a follow-up EP, along with writing songs for a full-length album. Some of these songs can be listened to online at various webpages (refer to links section).
